The building’s interior decoration takes three forms. The shape color of the structure itself, the patterning of the floor and the ceiling of the main hall. The interior is constructed largely of inexpensive manufactured materials. The walls are sheetrock and fiberglass reinforced. The structural concrete is exposed in many places. The ceiling is simple, lay-in set at a forty five degree angle to the buildings grid. The only natural material found in any quantity is the wood of the doors. To dress up the interior and imbues this inexpensive materials with a deeper meaning out ram uses both shape and color. The column yokes, where a round column metamorphosis’s in to a cage of four square columns’ stand out because of their curved surfaces. The eye refuses to believe that the smooth and changing curve of its corner is simply awesome.
It looks more expensive. The color changes on the yoke to ensure that the eye reads the curves. Similarly, the smooth round columns of the west hall deceive the eye. They are built from sheetrock. One factor that affects exterior walls and not interior ones is wind resistance.
To be approved for outside use, a glass block panel has to resist 20 pounds of pressure per square foot, the equivalent of hurricane winds. Keeping it simple is a little more difficult. I have visited many “designers” client homes, just to see the designers particular brand or style stamped all over the place. How do we keep our homes in the realm of our own personalities?
When you are searching for a design and or designer, first look at their product. Talk to past clients. Visualize the designers work in your private space. Does it work? Or could you have done a better job on your own and a whole lot less expensive?
I have designed many different styles.
Each as individual as the client themselves. How is this done? First, you have to do the homework. A client whom states : Do whatever you like, I trust you and I will be back from Bermuda in six weeks” might be a client I may choose to steer clear of.
I will not brand my personal style on a clients home. Your home should and must reflect your personality and uniqueness. With excitement and motivation, create something totally yours, you can learn how to build a truly stunning environment all your own.
Magazines, websites other design information can be your very best friend. You have done it before, I just can see both of us searching magazines, ripping out the cool stuff and making piles…This is your start to discovering your personal style.
Build a book on these pictures. Study each picture.
Circle the idea or picture which caught your eye. Put you piles of pictures in categories. i.e. living, bath, family, kitchen. Then go back and cull out the pictures which may not be as appealing. Only keep the very best. You will eventually discover what you love, whether in color, shape, size or style name. My personal style is called European Recycled…No joke.
Keep your first trial and run simple. Paint is the least expensive re-do and has an amazing impact.
Interior design can be a simple act of re-arranging or de-cluttering. A fresh coat of paint is magic.
Find your magic. Love where you live. make it a peaceful and creative environment all your own.

Interior or Exterior Shutters?

Window shutters are a popular alternative to curtains and blinds. But, if you would like shutters for your home, should you choose interior or exterior shutters? There are some important differences between them and each has some unique advantages.
Interior shutters are part of the interior of a home and can help create a warm atmosphere in the room where they are installed. They are both elegant and functional. Louvred shutters can be adjusted to suit the weather conditions. Their louvres can be opened to let air and light through or closed to keep air and light out. Depending on how they are adjusted they can offer privacy. If shutters are closed with the louvres partially open then it can make a room more private while not blocking out the natural light; they can be adjusted so the light comes in at an angle without allowing people on the outside to see in.
Due to the wood used in the manufacture of wooden shutters, they can keep the warmth in during the winter a lot more than curtains do, and due to the quality of wood usually used, even more so than blinds. The can also keep the heat out during the summer, eliminating the need for air conditioning in hot climates. Therefore, having shutters installed can reduce heating and cooling bills. Interior shutters are also easy to maintain. Simply wiping them down with a damp cloth is all that is needed when cleaning them, as opposed to curtains which will need to be take down to be washed. A final benefit of interior shutters is that they can increase the value of a home. As they are permanent fixtures the cost of having them installed can be recuperated should you choose to sell your home.
In some ways exterior shutters are very different to their interior counterpart. While they add to the interior design when on the inside of a window, when they are on the outside they look great to passers-by. They give a home a Mediterranean feel, which is where they originated from. A practical advantage to some is that they offer added security. For this reason they are sometimes used in places susceptible to natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. There are many styles available so you can usually get them made to fit your home, with many providers offering them custom made. Exterior shutters can eliminate the need for internal window coverings. You may choose to have then for decorative purposes, but for practical purposes interior curtains or blinds will not really be necessary. Repainting is an option. Once worn, they can be repainted and home owners can change the colour of them should they wish to go for a different look. A similarity with interior shutters is the adjustability, as they can be easily altered depending on your preference in any particular weather conditions; you can keep out or let in sunlight as you choose. Another similarity is the energy efficiency.
There are both differences and similarities between interior and exterior shutters. They are both elegant in their own way and each has practical qualities.
Ideal Fountain Designs For Interior And Exterior Spaces

An outdoor garden fountain is one of the most revered outdoor accessory that warrants a refreshing sight and sound to the homeowners as well as their guests. If you’re thinking of getting a water fountain for your home or perhaps your garden, procuring such a fixture greatly depends on your style, budget outlay, indoor or outdoor space as well as the purpose that you would assign to the fountain. For instance, some homeowners prefer to purchase water features that produce a soft, comforting sound, and there are also homeowners who like to own miniature fountains instead of the stand-alone units because they are space efficient and ideal for small homes. However, if you’re really after a multifunctional water feature, you might want to try your hands on a ball fountain, a copper fountain, or perhaps a slate fountain.
A ball fountain is a sphere shaped water feature that streams or jets water into a dish located at its bottom. It is commonly used as a primary outdoor garden fountain for home gardens, patios and decks as well as in public spaces because of its unique appearance and large size. It can be constructed from various concrete materials such as terracotta, marble, granite and steel. Perhaps, one of the best features of this fountain design is its flexibility, allowing it to suit almost all kinds of interior and exterior themes.
Another contemporary fountain design that you could try is the copper floor fountain. This is ideal to use in expansive spaces, but should not be integrated near walls or planters to avoid giving a shadowy or crowded look on your landscape. Instead, consider it as a stand-alone water feature that should be integrated at the middle of your garden or yard to make a sophisticated statement that would capture the imagination of your guests. Although a copper fountain can be expensive, you could definitely offset its price based on its ability to add warmth and stylishness regardless of the type of outdoor space that you have.
Another feature worth noting about copper floor fountain is that it is highly regarded in the field of feng shui. Because of its metallic tone, most feng shui experts agree that a copper fountain is a good addition inside the home as it is capable of fully supporting the creative cycle of water and ability to increase the level of Qi inside the home. As a result, such a fountain attracts more wealth and money inside the home. The basic rule when using this type of fountain as part of a feng shui-based garden design is that “more shine, more Qi!”
As for the interiors of your home, a slate indoor fountain is one of the best water features you could install. Such a fountain design can be a floor fountain, a wall-mounted water feature, or even a tabletop fountain that can be constructed from various materials including steel, glass and ceramic, which means you have an array of choices to choose from with which you could find the slate unit that would suit your planned interior design. The good thing about this contemporary fountain design is that it is probably the best water feature that could bring the beauty of nature inside your home. This is because slate fountains, especially wall-mounted slate fountains with real slate surfaces, copy the colorful and textured slates found in nature. Hence, if you would like to have a water feature that echoes the beauty of nature, then this fountain design option is the right one for you.
Your imagination is the limit when it comes to the uniqueness and sophistication of outdoor garden fountain units. As such, when you’re in the market looking for these water features, always take into consideration your design choice so that it won’t be difficult for you to make the right fountain choice. Similarly, you also need to consider the location where you will install your water feature as this factor will help you in identifying the right size and aesthetics of the fountain that you should pick. By carefully taking all these things into account, you would have a spectacular fountain that would become the focal point either of your interior or exterior space.
